This past Saturday, November 21st, your Men’s and Women’s Varsity Cross Country teams made the trip out to Hayward for the NCS Championship Cross Country meet. Your teams raced their hardest and both qualified for the State Championship! Held in Fresno two days after Thanksgiving, the races are offered to only 24 teams per division in the state.
The Prep girls were led by Brianna B. (‘17), who finished fourth overall in the Division 5 race. However, the girl’s sixth place team finish, which qualified them for State, couldn’t have happened without the rest of the team: Carly H. (‘18), Maya Z.(‘17), Grace B. (‘17), Charlotte P. (‘17), Gabi W. (‘16), Martha C. (‘17), and Sophia D. (‘18).
The boy’s team earned a third place team title after Alex G. (‘16), Ethan A. (‘17), and Stevie S. (‘16) all claimed spots in the top 20 finishers. Alex, racing on a fractured foot, recorded the 9th fastest time in the history of the Hayward NCS course for Division 5 and finished third in the race. Ethan had a strong back half of the race, working his way up to claim tenth place, and Stevie powered through to the finish, finishing 16th. As with the girls, the boy’s team wouldn’t have qualified for State without the support and effort of the rest of the team: Victor W. (‘18), Elie S. (‘18), Adam Z. (‘18), Nicholas L. (‘17), and Sasha M. (‘18).
Congratulate a varsity cross country runner for their amazing effort and accomplishments this past weekend!
